PEPSI TATE 1965-2007
Goodnight my dear friend
We are all absolutely devastated to bring you the news that our beloved friend and Tigertailz Bass player PEPSI TATE lost his battle with pancreatic cancer today. Pepsi passed away peacefully at 10:30 this morning, Tuesday 18th September 2007, in Holme Towers cancer hospice in Penarth Cardiff. Pepsi's wife Shan and close family were with him.
Words cannot describe how we all feel right now. We're in bits and will miss him so much.
You mean the world to us Boy. And gave me some of the best memories and experiences of my life. I feel so privileged to have shared those times with you and I just can't imagine the world without you.
I love you, we all love you.
Goodnight Boy - we'll see you again soon fella. xxx
I am quite shocked by the news....... But cannot say that I'm surprised under the circumstances of his health. I can see why the latest album was rushed through and released so quick. One of my heroes during the eighties, met him a couple of times. Thanks to Pepsi for the Klint Tiger drawing. Charming guy from memory. Makes ya wonder why all the nice guys suffer...... There is an interview with Pepsi is this months issue of Classic Rock too.... Talk about the forthcoming tour and album.
Blimey, this news is a shocker - I didn't know him personally, but it's still a shock to hear of someone passing away at such a young age...especially another muso. My thoughts are with his nearest & dearest. RIP fella. :o(
Just talked to him now mate .. he's gutted obviously .. words can express how confused i feel .. i didn't know him personally, but he is our age and of our time, so it feels strange that someone so young still has gone, could have been anyone of us lot huh ? .. Peace fellow Bass bro' .. R.I.P.
I'm still pretty shocked myself. Ya just don't think it can happen to someone who was still so young and had so much more to give. Things were certainly on the up for TT with the recent releases and renewed interest and energy in the band!
I saw this first thing this morning and posted one second behind JB, I know if I had been over there we would have had a get together and said farewell to him. I did meet him once (as in hi) at Cardiff Bogey's at a Rich Rags gig and we all ended up in a massive food fight, it was so funny and so memorable.. ...........
Marshy says it all really............."i didn't know him personally, but he is our age and of our time, so it feels strange that someone so young still has gone, could have been anyone of us lot huh "?
I've just seen this now and I'm stunned by the news - Tigertailz were probably my favourite band from the 80's - I've spent hours and hours listening to their music over the years but never (due to various circumstances) got to see them in their hey-day
I'm so so glad that I finally got to see the guys play live last year in Nottingham - The memory of that I will cherish - It just won't be the same without him......
Must have been 1986/7, I was in Cry and we were offered the chance to support Tigertailz at Walthamstow Royal Standard we knocked it back cos we had no idea who they were??? about a year later we got our first Marquee support, it was with a Welsh glam band called Tigertailz we were so excited at this opportunity, they cancelled the gig, we were gutted...
... Me me and more Me !! 'kin 'ell Lenni its Not about you mate ;0 (
Pepsi is to be buried today at around 2pm .. spare a thought for "the Boy".
Fully aware of that, if it comes across that way it wasn't mean't to. You know I was thinking about this and I said something that was a distant memory that linked me with him in some way.
Hi Marshy... just to clear this up, from what I'm reading..... This tat was based on the Love Bomb Cover and I re-drew (with a little help from Iain) the pic with my own twist to it. I recently had the Tat re-inked, as it was done originally during the early 90's, so seems a fitting tribute now.
Its a great tattoo Andy - I spent hours embroidering Klint onto a denim jacket years ago - so I know how hard it is to get him just right - Wish I still had that jacket - I loved it but it fell to bits as Denim jackets have a habit of doing
There is a superb edition of Cable Rock currently on BBC Wales on listen again - It's one Pepsi did last year before he became ill and has some superb tracks on it
Pepsi's playlist that night was:
Tigertailz - Love Bomb Electric Boys - All Lips & Hips Warrant - Cherry Pie Ratt - Lack Of Communication Motley Crue - Looks That Kill Faith No More - From Out of Nowhere Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me Winger - Easy Come Easy Go Love Hate - Blackout In The Red Room The Sweet - Teenage Rampage David Lee Roth - Yankee Rose Tigertailz - I Believe
Oh lordy - Don't please, it will set me off again in floods of tears - They are awesome video's put together by people who obviously loved Pepsi alot but they are really difficult to watch more than once.
As the guys are still planning to go out on tour - Is anyone planning to go to any of the gigs?
I'd like to try and get to one but I'm really not a fan of Y&T - Infact I'd struggle to name a single song - thats not a reflection of the band itself - just they were never a band I got into
There is a rumour that they may do some extra Tigertailz headline gigs in addition to the Y&T one and the one at the Point in Cardiff - if that does happen and its within driving distance I'll try and get to one of those
I've decided that I have to go to one of these gigs - so I'll be going to the Manchester Academy gig - I've even looked up Y & T on YouTube so I've some idea of what they are like - Remind me of Van Halen, Def Leppard and a whole host of other hair bands so atleast they are within the right ballpark musically even if I'm not aware of their stuff
That would be great Andy - if you could - It doesn't matter how long the set is - I just need to go - If I could have got to the Point gig I would have - but its a Monday night and I just don't have the spare holiday to take
